Afghanistan War Essay Example
Afghanistan War Essay In 2001 the Twin Towers were destroyed by two planes and also there were two other planes one was supposed to hit the White House and the other the Pentagon. This started the war in Afghanistan. Itââ¬â¢s been eight years since this incident, and the United States and President Obama still want to keep this war going. Next year they are going to send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan and Iraq. There are three reasons why they shouldnââ¬â¢t send them: one for their safety; two Afghanistan should keep their business to themselves; and three itââ¬â¢s going to affect the economy big time. First of all President Obama is going to send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan next year. My first reason on why he shouldnââ¬â¢t is because of their safety, like for example people get killed every single day because of this war. Just the other day me and my mom were going to the mall and we saw this funeral car coming by us and there were a whole bunch of people behind it and my mom told me that must have been the soldier that had died the other day at the war. Yes itââ¬â¢s sad to see that stuff happen to those people who just want to serve their country and risk their lives out there to see if they are going to make it or not. A mid-November Washington Post poll found that 52 percent of Americans now believe the war is not worth fighting, a trend mirrored by other recent surveys (LAT). Obama is nonetheless voicing optimism that after eight years of war, victory can be salvaged. Convincing a skeptical Congress and wavering alliesstung by the political and economic costs of a war now eight years oldcould prove more difficult. As Anthony H. Cordesman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies sees it, Obama has so far failed to earn the trust of the international community on his approach to managing the war. But its a trend he can reverse, Cordesman says, by getting specific on strategy (PDF)â⬠(Bruno 6). Also in his interview with Bill Oââ¬â¢Reilly ââ¬Å"Because thereââ¬â¢s an unlying problem where what have we done. We have reduced the violenceâ⬠(Obama 10). Like to me I really donââ¬â¢t agree with that because if they send more troops there will be more violence. Also my dad is leaving on January to Iraq and after he comes back he is getting diploid again but to Afghanistan. My mom like cries because she knows is getting closer to the date that he leaves. And she prays every single night. Like she really does not want him to leave, because she knows that people get killed every single day and she doesnââ¬â¢t want him to be one of those people. Also I remember when I was a little girl my mom and grandmother always used to pray for those soldiers who die every single day, and I remember whenever I prayed my grandmother always cried after. So one day I asked her why she cried, and she told me that she had lost her father when she was three. So since then she told me that she prayed since then for him and all the other soldiers who died every single day, and said that does soldiers out there are real men they stand up for their country risking their lives out there for their country. After she told me this now I think back and I surely donââ¬â¢t agree with sending more troops to Afghanistan. The second reason they shouldnââ¬â¢t send the troops to Afghanistan is because Afghanistan should keep their problems to their self. Ok because this war happen eight years ago and before that they had other problems and the United States were getting involved with them, but finally when they decided to blow up the twin towers thatââ¬â¢s what really started this war. I mean common itââ¬â¢s been eight years since this why canââ¬â¢t they just let it go and move on. Because really is this really necessary to have a war on something that happened eight years ago. Even a light U. S. presence could continue to allow for aggressive operations against al-Qaeda terrorists, in Afghanistan, who plan to attack the United States,(McMahon 4). See this isnââ¬â¢t our problem yet because they are planning but they havenââ¬â¢t done it yet. So the United States military should just get prepared and stop this war. Because is this all necessary to really to keep this war going, itââ¬â¢s been eight years really they should just donââ¬â¢t send the troops. Ok also before the twin towers were destroyed, Afghanistan had more problems with their neighbor they were going to get in a war and thatââ¬â¢s when the United States got involved and tried to stop that war from happening. Like they shouldnââ¬â¢t have gotten involved because probably when they destroyed the Twins Towers was because they were nosy and got involved on what was not any of their business. So yea they really shouldnââ¬â¢t gotten into that problem because now we, the United States, are the ones who are suffering from all this. Many would argue that the story of how 9/11 came about goes back, at least, to 1979 when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, with which it shares a border. Afghanistan had experienced several problems since 1973, when the Afghanistan monarchy was overthrown by Daud Khan, who was sympathetic to Soviet overtures. An unsuspected attack reflected struggles within Afghanistan among factions with different ideas about how Afghanistan should be governed and whether it should be communist, and with the problems with the Soviet Union. The Soviets intervened following the overthrow of a pro-communist leader. In late December 1979, after several months of evident military preparation, they invaded Afghanistan. At that time, the Soviet Union and the United States were engaged in the Cold War, a global competition for the loyalty of other nations. The United States was deeply interested in whether the Soviet Union would succeed in establishing a communist government loyal to Moscow in Afghanistan. In order to prevent that possibility, the United States began funding insurgent forces to oppose the Soviets. In June 26 of 2001 India and Iran will facilitate US and Russian plans for military action against the Taliban if the intended tough new economic approval dont bend Afghanistans believes and government. The Taliban controls 90 per cent of Afghanistan and is advancing northward along the Salang highway and preparing for a sneak attack on the opposition Northern Alliance from Tajikistan-Afghanistan border positions. On October 7, 2001, military strikes against Afghanistan were launched by the United States and an international alliance that included Great Britain, Canada, Australia, Germany and France. The attack was military retaliation for the September 11, 2001 attacks by Al Qaeda on American targets. It was called ââ¬Å"Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistanâ⬠. The attack followed several weeks of diplomatic effort to have al Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden, handed over by the Taliban government. The third and last reason not to send the troops to Afghanistan is because this movement is going to cost billions of dollars. Like now that our economy is bad that we canââ¬â¢t even afford papers for the schools, also my school canââ¬â¢t do any fieldtrips this year because we donââ¬â¢t have enough money, so see how bad the economy is right now and when they send those troops itââ¬â¢s going to get worse and put the United States in big debt. Like Obama said in one of his interviews, ââ¬Å"But the Iraqis still hasnââ¬â¢t taken responsibility, and we still dont have the kind of political reconciliation. We are still spending, Bill, $10 to $12 billion a monthâ⬠. See now this is what is getting our economy so bad I mean like spending ten to twenty billion dollars every month and they still havenââ¬â¢t send those troops yet I mean wow thatââ¬â¢s too much. And do they know how much this movement is going to affect our economy bad and since I told you earlier that my school canââ¬â¢t even afford paper all we get is like nine packets of those print paper for the whole year I mean like is it so bad, when they send the troops itââ¬â¢s going to get worse I mean if it does get worse I bet my school couldnââ¬â¢t even afford the busses to go and play sports at different schools. And right now we canââ¬â¢t even go on field trips anywhere because of the budget. So yea I think Obama need to rethink what he is going to do about the war because right now I bet he doesnââ¬â¢t even have a clue on what he is doing and how this movement is going to affect our economy. In conclusion, itââ¬â¢s been eight years since the twin towers were destroyed, which stated this tragic war in Afghanistan and the U. S. and President Obama still wants to keep this war going. And next year the U. S. is going to send 30,000 more troops there which will hurt the economy and the families of the soldiers, being picked to send them, really bad because right now itââ¬â¢s bad and when they send the troops itââ¬â¢s going to get worse. So I just gave you three reasons why the U. S. shouldnââ¬â¢t send them. Afghanistan |. Center for a New American Security. Web. 13 Dec. 2009. . Kagan, Robert.
